Enlarged Prostate – What You Should Know?

Saturday 22 August 2009 @ 9:57 am

Enlarged Prostate is about prostate problems faced by most men. An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older. As the gland grows, it can press on the urethra and cause urination and bladder problems.

An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or benign prostatic hypertrophy. It is not cancer, and it does not raise your risk for prostate cancer.

The prostate is a male reproductive gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. It surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body.

Enlarged prostate information

Sunday 16 August 2009 @ 6:28 am

Enlarged prostate refers to non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate which occurs at the later stage of man’s life. Enlarged prostate squeezes the urethra causing it to get narrowed. This results in blockage of the passage of urine from the bladder and greater pressure is required to pass urine. The bladder wall becomes swallon and irritable. Enlarged prostate causes the bladder to contract when it contains small amounts of urine, causing more frequent urination. Eventually, the bladder weakens and loses the ability to empty itself, so some of the urine remains in the bladder. The narrowing of the urethra and partial emptying of the bladder cause many of the problems associated with enlarged prostate. The narrowing can become so tight that no urine passes at all. Enlarged prostate can also cause urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infection, bladder stone formation, and occasionally kidney failure.
